Lightroom Corp. gave me the chance to test drive Joby’s GorillaPod 3k! ❤️❤️❤️It’s probably the most ergonomic, easy-to-use, and on-the-go tripod I’ve ever used (and I’ve personally gone through a ton of tripods to say this).
What I mean by “gone through a ton of tripods” is, I’ve tried the cheap ones. And they all broke apart, got lost, or I just didn’t feel safe using them. Upon receiving the Joby GorillaPod, and trying it out for myself, it felt so safe and sturdy to use despite its size and ability to manipulate into different grip sizes (because of its ball and head legs). Granted it took a while to get used to, but I got the hang of it in no time.
Here are some features that I personally loved:
Mobile phone clamp.
Interchangeable mounts for phone or camera.
The tripod can carry either! Yes, it’s stable enough for both (given that you don’t use a 200mm macro lens on your camera, but why would you do that anyway if you’re shooting 😂)! The DSLR mount is similar to that of your normal tripod (a screw), so you’re sure it’s on there. For the phone mount, it has the resizable clamp. I was able to fit my phone with a fairly thick case in it.
Grippy and stable feet.
The material for the ball and head legs are rubberized and very grippy! Yes, I’ll use the term “grippy” because that’s exactly how it works. The GorillaPod is designed to be mounted on virtually anything; rocks, smooth light stands, trees, you name it. As long as it perfectly wraps around, you’re good to go. Since it’s rubberized too, it doesn’t move around or slide by itself once you set it.
Portability
I shoot in different studios and sometimes even shoot on location when I need to. It’s lightweight (your average light stand is heavier) and easily fits in my backpack! Also the size of it isn’t too big nor is it too small. It’s also not flimsy that you have to grip it in a certain way for it to hold itself together (if you’ve used 90-peso tripods from shopee, you’ll know what I mean!!) 😂
